Big Ted and I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful meeting on 8th April 2025 at Claudius Lodge No. 8700, held at Colchester Masonic Hall—and we didn’t leave empty-handed!

The invitation came from W.Bro Arthur Cooke, Charity Steward of the Lodge, who informed me that the Brethren had kindly voted to donate £500 to the TLC Essex Appeal, qualifying them as official Patrons. He also invited me to attend their meeting to receive the donation in person and witness Bros Conor Wilson and Tony Thompson being Passed to the Second Degree—already more than enough reason to accept.

But then came a wonderful bonus.

W.Bro Arthur mentioned that W.Bro Barry Jones, Recorder of St Giles at Abbeygate Rose Croix Chapter No. 733, would also be in attendance (as he and several of the Lodge Brethren are dual members), and that he would be presenting a second donation of £500—this time from the Chapter.

It was a very enjoyable and heartening evening, filled with excellent ritual, warm hospitality, and the true spirit of Masonic charity. I had the honour of presenting TLC Patron Certificates to both Claudius Lodge and St Giles at Abbeygate Chapter, in recognition of their generous support.
