In November 2023, the spirit of charity and camaraderie shone brightly as Worshipful Brothers Rob Hollier and Ken Cownden embarked on a noble quest: the Movember Challenge.
Their mission was clear—to grow majestic moustaches and, in doing so, raise vital funds for TLC Essex, a cause close to their hearts.
Supported by their friends, families, and the lodges they visited, Rob and Ken embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. As the month progressed, so did their facial follicles, sprouting into the iconic symbols of Movember.
Brother Ken's dedication knew no bounds as he amassed an impressive £800 in donations, bravely bidding farewell to his cherished moustache in December. Meanwhile, Brother Rob, not to be outdone, raised £450, culminating in a joyous gathering at McNab Lodge No. 10017 on January 18, 2024.
However, what awaited Brother Rob at the lodge was more than just applause and admiration. In a heartwarming display of unity, the brethren rallied together, raising an additional £125 as they ceremoniously bid farewell to Rob's cherished facial hair.
Together, the brothers presented a substantial cheque totaling £1,375 to Very Worshipful Brother Paul Reeves, Chairman of TLC Essex. This generous contribution will provide comfort and solace to countless traumatised children in Essex hospitals, equating to nearly 600 cuddly teddy bears—a beacon of hope during times of adversity.
Rob and Ken's journey exemplifies the power of brotherhood and the profound impact that selfless acts of kindness can have on those in need. Their commitment to making a difference serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us that even the smallest gestures can ignite rays of hope in the darkest of times.
